This current terrible era in American history has presented standup comics with a clarifying moment, should they choose to accept it. Many will ignore the moment and amble along as they always have, pandering for cheap laughs from the apathetic masses. Some will dabble in getting “real” for the first time in their careers, to mixed results. Still others, veteran observers and passionate feminists like Jackie Kashian, have chosen to embrace the anger and pain and let it inform their comedy. Our culture needs that latter group more now than ever.
