Two albums in, Algiers is now the leading voice of scathing protest music in America. Spread between Atlanta, New York and London, the interracial quartet has a front-row seat to systemic racial and economic injustices on both sides of the pond, aiming straight for the heart of the matter with their steamroller of post-Motown soul, no-wave distortion and gospel-like vocal exhortations. Their second album, The Underside of Power, further confronts the faulty structures and beliefs that prop up the Western world. Thankfully, the music itself is a force to be reckoned with.
